JOB OPENING: Summer Intern

Gordon Thomas Honeywell Governmental Affairs (GTH-GA), one of Washington State’s largest lobbying firms, is looking for a summer intern to assist our team of governmental affairs consultants.
·         Full-time position, located in our Tacoma office.
·         Paid hourly intern rate
·         University credits may be obtained, if coordinated by the intern and offered by the intern’s university
Duties: The primary role of the intern will be to help our government affairs consultants meet the needs of our clients.   This includes activities such as:
·         Researching public policy issues, particularly issues frequently discussed by the state legislature and/or administered by state agencies.
·         Event planning/scheduling for legislative meetings, fundraisers, etc.
·         Reading, summarizing, and tracking state legislation throughout the county; assisting in managing our state-of-the-art bill tracking software. 
·         Assisting in drafting reports that include summaries of legislation, sample bills, news/media tracking, etc.
·         Providing assistance for association management clients, including website management, member outreach, meeting organization, etc. 
·         Providing basic administrative duties.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communications skills and an interest in government, public policy, or political science.  Applicants should:  
·         Be enrolled or recently have graduated from at a four year university, with a preference for majors in political science/communications.
·         Be proficient in MS Office and Outlook; knowledge of Photoshop and/or website construction would be preferable, but not required.   
·         Have reliable transportation and the ability to travel out of state, if necessary.
·         Experience working with the state legislature is preferred, but not required.
·         Experience working with campaigns is preferred, but not required.
