Long-term & Summer Campaign Director Position with Fair Share Alliance

Hello Professor O'Neil,

My name is Emily Heffling; I am the Campaign Director with Fair Share Alliance. Fair Share Alliance is a non-profit organization that works to provide every American with a fair shot at a good job, a secure future, and strong voice in our democracy.

This summer, we are launching 30 offices across the country to work on campaigns promoting clean energy and a fair economy. As an organization, we work to press local and national governments to implement policies that protect and benefit average citizens through grassroots outreach and coalition building.

Right now, we are hiring seniors, undergraduate, and even graduate students from across Washington, and specifically at Pugot Sound, to work as Campaign Directors in our offices. This is a great opportunity for students to work to solve today’s problems, build their resumes, and gain critical experience in public relations and grassroots organizing. I wanted to reach out to students at Pugot Sound prior to our arrival to make sure they knew about this opportunity!

We have found students with Liberal Arts, Environmental Science, Social Science and Humanities backgrounds, combined with a passion for policy, social justice and environmental issues, excel with our organization. However, we do strongly encourage students from all disciplinary backgrounds to contact us for more information and to schedule an interview.

We will be holding first round interviews this week for students interested in positions, and are going to be in Seattle next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for second round interviews. The email below describes our organization and this position, and has a link to a form for the students to fill who would like to hear more about our upcoming opportunities.

Can you send this email out to your students?

Thank you in advance for your help and please let me know if this is possible. If you have any questions about Fair Share Alliance or our work please reply or feel free to contact me at the number listed below.

Thanks so much Professor O'Neil, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Best,
Emily Heffling

Long-term & Summer Campaign Director Position with Fair Share Alliance
Fair Share Alliance is a citizen-based non-profit advocacy organization that works to provide every American with a fair shot at a good job, a secure future and a strong voice in our democracy.

We're facing a huge jobs crisis in this country. While too many Americans are struggling to find work, big corporations like Exxon Mobil are receiving billions in government subsidies. The good news is that we can create jobs rebuilding America's roads and bridges, and expanding clean energy. Big companies like Exxon will spend millions lobbying to stop us, but with elections coming up, grassroots support can make the difference.

We are NOW HIRING for offices around the country. We're looking for people who work hard, communicate well, and are committed to positive social change. As a Campaign Director, you’ll be part of building a Fair Share Alliance organization in your community and raising the profile of our issues to make a real impact in the lives of your friends, family and neighbors. To learn more details on particular responsibilities we encourage you to fill out our interest form so we can reach out to you directly with more information.

Fair Share Alliance is opening offices in 30 states across the country--it is also possible to apply and interview in Washington for a position in a different state office. Please email Leah Farkas at leah@fairsharealliance.org for questions or to get started in the process, or go to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEpIZ0tPR0RpdlhzSmdNWG9ZckxnTHc6MA#gid=0 for more info!

Internship with Project Votesmart

Project Vote Smart is a national, non-partisan, non-profit political research library located in the Montana Rockies. The Project was founded by former US Presidents Carter and Ford, as well as 40 other prominent national leaders of both major political parties and funded by the Carnegie and Ford Foundations. The New York Times said that “Project Vote Smart is so good that even the Federal Government recommends it.”

We are currently accepting applications for our National Internship Program. This year we are excited to announce our new online application system where students can now submit their applications completely electronically, expediting the review and acceptance process! To apply online or to get more information about Project Vote Smart, please visit www.votesmart.org. I hope you will look over our website and forward our information to any interested students. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks to the generous support of our members across the country, we are once again able to offer the Barry Goldwater scholarship to all accepted students. This scholarship provides room and board for the duration of the student’s 10 week internship at our headquarters, the Great Divide Ranch in Montana.

Through our internships, your students will have a unique opportunity to be involved with the political process, while enjoying one of the most spectacular places on earth. Our internship will give your students the chance to provide millions of people with factual, unbiased information, as well as the opportunity to stroll around pristine lakes and rivers, hike throughout the Rocky Mountains, or ski some of the best slopes in the country. During an internship with Project Vote Smart, students will work hard and learn a great deal, all in an environment defined by its beautiful scenery and the commitment of its staff and interns.

Our internships, as with all the other areas of the organization, focus on the end product: providing voters with pertinent, factual information on presidential, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative candidates and elected officials. For students, this means a hands-on internship with significant opportunities for learning and growth. In fact, more than 90 percent of the information that Project Vote Smart provides is researched, entered, and checked by interns and volunteers. This system has been developed and cultivated specifically to ensure that interns are primarily responsible for the research; the few staff members are here simply to train and guide interns in what needs to be accomplished.

Please ask your students to consider this opportunity and contact me with any questions at 1-888-VOTESMART (1-888-868-3762) or via email at intern@votesmart.org. I look forward to working together to provide your students with an unforgettable learning experience.

Sincerely,
Tallie Spiller

Postgraduate Study at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland

From: Cenisec
Date: Wed, Mar 28, 2012 at 7:57 AM
Subject: Postgraduate Study at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland

March 2012
Dear Colleagues,

I write to introduce the postgraduate programmes offered by the Irish School of Ecumenics, Trinity College, Dublin. I should be grateful if you would bring the attached information / literature to the attention of any students who may be interested in postgraduate opportunities in Ireland for 2012-2013 or, indeed, in the future.

All of our programmes focus on aspects of conflict, dialogue, peace and reconciliation. In addition to our research (M.Litt. and Ph.D.) degrees, we have three specialized Masters programmes:

M.Phil. in International Peace Studies – please contact: Mary Priestman, (peacesec@tcd.ie)

M.Phil. in Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies – please contact: Christine Houlahan, (ecumsec@tcd.ie)

M.Phil. in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation – please contact: Caroline Clarke, (reconsec@tcd.ie).

In addition we offer a Semester in Northern Ireland programme for Visiting Undergraduates: www.tcd.ie/ise/semesterabroad/ - please contact: Caroline Clarke, (reconsec@tcd.ie)

The Irish School of Ecumenics, TCD is the only cross-border university department, so students can study in either Dublin or Belfast, or can have an experience of both contexts, depending on their particular academic interests. In any one year, we have approximately 100 students following our taught Masters programmes, together with approximately 45 research students studying for the degrees of Ph.D and M.Litt. ISE is also playing a central role in Trinity’s new South Asian Initiative and is honoured to provide the academic home within Trinity for the Rotational Chair in Indic Studies. Professor Felix Wilfred of the University of Madras was the first incumbent. Provision for a second Chair-holder is currently being arranged.

Our programmes aim to combine the highest academic standards with ethical engagement on the critical issues of the day, and are of interest to those recognizing the need to develop new or additional skill sets, thereby attaining competencies, increasingly sought after in research, policy and practice spheres.

In addition to students from Ireland and the EU, we have a strong contingent of students from the USA, Canada and the developing nations, many of whom have been awarded prestigious scholarships. Profiles of our alumni and alumnae indicate that they play an increasingly important role as policy-makers, educationalists, mediators and reconcilers. They work with various organisations including the United Nations, European Union, and the World Council of Churches, and are present in many countries including Australia, Brazil, Burundi, Cameroon, China, Georgia, India, Ireland, Lebanon, Mexico, Nepal, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, St Vincent and the Grenadines, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, Turkey, USA, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Others proceed to further research in pursuance of a career in higher academic studies; others, within socially rooted education initiatives; still others in leading roles in a range of sectors in international civic society.

Apart from the attraction of Irish cultural life and the opportunity of studying in one of the world’s leading universities, these students are drawn by the international profile of staff research. Current research projects include: globalization and ethics; religion and civil society; comparative theology and interreligious dialogue; the ethics of non-violence; the work of truth and reconciliation commissions; religion and American foreign policy; the trafficking of women for sexual exploitation; and modern religious fundamentalism.

Having welcomed over the years many international students to the School, we should greatly appreciate your help in encouraging students from your University / College to explore some of the unique options of study among a truly cosmopolitan interdisciplinary cohort of scholars at ISE, Trinity College Dublin.

Thank you for giving this information your consideration. If there are appropriate persons (or venues) to whom further literature should be sent, I should be most grateful for your advice and guidance.

Both of which will be hiring in May for full time Field Organizer and Campaign Manager roles respectively; students interested in the paid positions- particularly those without campaign experience so far- are highly encouraged to apply for the internships. These internships will be similar to the position I saw posted on the blog by the HDCC but would be working directly for the candidates instead of the caucus.

Thanks,
Nic Van Putten

DC Intern Opportunity, Summer 2012

Dr. O’Neil,

My name is Drew Griffin and I am staff assistant for Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler in her DC office. I am beginning the process of looking for qualified summer interns to work in our DC office. I am actually a 2010 graduate from PLU and I know the quality students you have across town. If you would be able to inform students of this opportunity I would appreciate it. I will post the job opening in this e-mail. The internship is a great opportunity for students who are undergrads and want to get a feel of what a congressional office looks like as well as recent grads who are looking to get a foot in the door. The internship is unpaid, so interns would need to be able to afford living expenses. As a Republican office, we do ask for interns that are Republican. 3rd Congressional connections and Pacific Northwest ties in general are helpful. I appreciate any help you can provide in this matter.

Internship: The Office of Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA) is seeking dedicated, enthusiastic, conservative individuals for summer internships. This internship provides ample opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. Duties include answering phones and mail, conducting tours of the U.S. Capitol, and assisting staff members and Congresswoman Herrera Beutler with achieving our legislative goals and constituent outreach. Applicants must be self-motivated and work well in a team setting. Strong writing and communication skills are also a must. Third District/Washington (State) ties are a plus.

Applicant Instructions:
All interested persons should contact Drew Griffin, Internship Coordinator for Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, at 202-225-3536 or drew.griffin@mail.house.gov if he/she has any questions.
