As always, do your homework regarding whether these kinds of jobs are good opportunities or not.  -Professor O'Neil

Dear Dr. O'Neil, My name is Kate and I'm the director with the Fund for the Public Interest in our Portland office. We are a national non-profit organization that runs grassroots campaigns for the nation’s top progressive non-profits including Environment America, U.S. PIRG, Fair Share, and the Human Rights Campaign.

We are currently hiring 2014 college graduates to run our campaign offices across the country. This year, I will be in charge of recruiting top candidates for career positions at the University of Puget Sound.

I’m very excited to be working with your campus. In fact, two of my fellow directors attended Puget Sound. My ultimate goal is to interview 5 (or more) graduating seniors for directing positions. I would also be excited to meet any interested undergrads; we have lots of summer positions available, as well as careers for them down the road! In order to do this I will be networking with different contacts on campus, and I will need a lot of help.

Sue Dahlin, at the career center, suggested that you might be willing to help me spread the word. I have posted a blurb at the bottom with more information. Would you be willing to share it in your classes, send it out in an email, or department newsletter?

Additionally, if you know of any good candidates, feel free to nominate them yourself and I would be happy to follow up with them. If you have any questions or wish to nominate one of your students, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thanks for your consideration,

Kate Wiggins Assistant Canvass Director – Fund for the Public Interest 1536 SE 11th Ave, Suite C Portland OR, 97214 Work: 503-231-6679 Cell: 812-459-3099 Email: kwiggins@fundstaff.org

The Fund for the Public Interest is a national non-profit organization that works to build support for progressive organizations across the country.

We run campaigns for Environment America, U.S.PIRG, Fair Share, and the Human Rights Campaign. In the coming year we will be running offices in over 35 cities, mobilizing public support, and meeting with our elected officials to help win environmental and social justice campaigns.

We are currently hiring graduating seniors to run our campaign offices across the country. As a Citizen Outreach Director you will recruit, train, and manage a staff of 10-20 people to raise money, build membership, and do campaign work on a variety of social issues. We are hiring smart, hard-working, and motivated seniors to do this important work. Progress does not come easily. The closer we get to a cleaner environment, more tolerant society, or a more open democracy, the harder powerful special interests and opposing forces push back. If we want to see real, sustained social change, we need to do more. We need to organize. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. But no matter what, we’re building a bigger movement. We will talk to 2.8 million people this year, one person at a time.

Are you one of us? If so, I can’t wait to meet you. For more information on careers with the Fund, contact Kate Wiggins kwiggins@fundstaff.org
