Jonestown Survivor: An Insider’s Perspective
Laura Johnston Kohl is a writer, a bilingual teacher, on the Speakers’ Bureau of The Jonestown Institute, a bilingual international speaker, a Quaker, and a Board Member of the Communal Studies Association. When 914 members of Peoples Temple and four visiting Americans died in Guyana, South America on November 18, 1978, Laura survived. She was one of 87 who lived through the trauma. In 2010 Laura published her book Jonestown Survivor: An Insider’s Look. Laura contributes to the annual Jonestown Report published by the Jonestown Institute and is helping set up a survivors’ visit to Jonestown with a documentary crew.

Intern on a Campaign to Reelect a WA Supreme Court Justice
Friends of Justice Gonzalez is seeking interns for our 2018 campaign to re-elect Justice Steve
Gonzalez to the Washington Supreme Court. Interns will have the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in all aspects of the campaign, including learning about the unique aspects of campaigning for justices. This position is ideal for individuals seeking an immersive experience in campaigning, event planning, media/communications, or anyone with a passion for joining Team Gonzalez!
Justice Steve Gonzalez is a father and husband and has a long and distinguished career serving the people of the State of Washington. He won a statewide election to the Washington Supreme Court in 2012 with over 60% of the vote. Before joining the Supreme Court, Steve served for ten years as a trial judge on the King County Superior Court hearing criminal, civil, juvenile, and family law cases. Prior to joining the court in King County, Steve practiced both criminal and civil law. He was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Washington where he was given the Distinguished Service Award, a Domestic Violence Prosecutor for the City of Seattle, and an Associate in the Business Law Department at the Seattle law firm Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson. He earned his B.A. with Honors in East Asian Studies from Pitzer College and his J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law.
Intern duties include but are not limited to:
● Coordinating special events from small gatherings to large scale, high profile political regional
events
● Staffing Justice Gonzalez and the team at campaign and community events
● Communications and social media outreach
● Conducting in-depth donor research, maintenance, and management of data
● Direct communication with donors and the public to inform about our race
● Assisting with management of office administrative duties, including mail and contribution
processing
● Other responsibilities as they develop
Qualifications:
● Proficient experience working with Microsoft Office Suite to include Word and Excel
● Ability to prioritize and meet competing deadlines
● Ability to maintain and manage highly sensitive or confidential information
● Additional skills in graphic design, social media marketing, or database management helpful but not necessary
● A passion for re-electing an incredible Justice!
