Internship Opportunities with Progressive Strategies NW

Professor O'Neil,
I hope things are going well for you as the end of term approaches.  Local campaigns are gearing up and I've attached two position descriptions for students interested in internships.  One is a competitive partisan race and the other is a judicial election which would be a great opportunity for a student considering law school.  Please feel free to put me in touch with any students you would recommend, and of course to post these on the politics blog.
Thanks and best wishes,
~Nic Van Putten

Work with Match Eduation

My name is Jahfree Duncan, IT Director for Match Education (www.matcheducation.org). We operate an elementary, middle, and high school in Boston for inner city students, and run an urban education tutoring program in Illinois in partnership with the Chicago Public Schools and the University of Chicago.

We’re looking for seniors who either

  • want to spend a year working closely with students in Boston while training to be a teacher or
  • want to spend a year in Boston or Chicago working closely with students before heading off to grad school or another career

Our teacher training program was recently recognized by US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan for its innovation. Program participants receive training on how to become highly effective first-year teachers (there is a near 100% placement rate in high performing urban schools).

In addition, teacher residents receive housing and a living stipend while completing their Master’s. The teacher residency is only available in Boston, but we have tutoring opportunities (for folks just looking to do an urban education gap year) available in both Chicago and Boston.

Do you happen to know of any standout seniors that may be interested in speaking with someone from Match Education?

You can contact our recruiting team directly at Recruiting@MatchEducation.org

Thank you so much and look forward to hearing from you,
 Jahfree Duncan

Legislative Campaign Internship - Interviews close on Friday, April 25

Do you have a passion for politics? Do you want to get more involved in your community? Do you want to have a stand-out resume?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions you should apply to be a campaign intern for Monique Trudnowski for State Representative! We are searching for motivated individuals that want to work with an exceptional candidate and are eager to learn about state politics.

Monique Trudnowski is a candidate for State Representative in the 28th district. She is a mother of 6, self-made businesswoman, political outsider & co-owner of The Adriatic Grill with her husband Bill. Together they have grown the restaurant from 30 employees to 62 since opening in February, 2008.

"As a small business owner, I can no longer sit on the sidelines while we continue to be hamstrung by overreaching state and federal governments that are recklessly spending our future generations into debt, punishing entrepreneurship and taking away our freedoms."

"I don't want to be a professional politician, but I know that if we want to reverse the course of our state and our party, we must stand up and change the kind of people we send to Olympia, and that's why I'm running for the Legislature."

Monique Trudnowski is not your typical Republican. The Trudnowski campaign will be an example of grassroots organization and door-to-door voter contact bringing with it a message of Small Business Growth, Economic Development and Strengthening Education.

Last year Monique was by the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation with the Faces of Diversity: The American Dream Award which recognizes exceptional restaurant owners who have overcome past obstacles to achieve the American dream.

Washington's 28th District is going to be the center of the 2014 election season and Monique's campaign for State Representative is looking to be one of the most exciting in the state.

Trudnowski grew up on Fort Lewis as a military dependent. She is currently the Honorary Vice Commander for the Western Air Defense Sector at JBLM, and has a son that is a wounded warrior at JBLM. To learn more please visit www. MoniqueTrudnowski.com.
