Organizing for America Field Organizer position available

Organizing for America (OFA), the Obama Campaign, is looking to bring on some Deputy Field Organizers for the next two and a half weeks.  The DFO will be matched up with a campaign Field Organizer to help coordinate the Get Out the Vote program during the last couple weeks of the campaign.  This is an excellent opportunity to get a lot of experience on a national campaign and with grassroots organizing in a short amount of time.  The available positions will be in King County, and reliable transportation will be essential, however exceptions will be made. There will be a minimum weekly time commitment of 40-50 hours and plenty of opportunity to work more.  The compensation will be work experience, references, and $1,000.  Feel free to pass this along to any interested alumni or students.

This program offers U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to participate in 10-week, unpaid internships that provide intensive educational and professional experience within the environment of America’s principle foreign affairs agency.

As a Student Experience intern, you may have the opportunity to:

• Help organize and support events, including international and/or multi-lateral meetings and conferences on critical global issues;

• Engage directly with U.S. or foreign audiences to promote U.S. foreign policy and improve understanding of U.S. culture and society.

So consider spending your summer 2013 with the U.S. Department of State, witnessing and participating in the formulation and implementation of U.S. foreign policy, working closely with the U.S. diplomats and civil servants who carry out America’s foreign policy initiatives. Master's Degree in Science & Technology Policy at ASU

Dear Dr. Patrick O'Neil,

I am writing as the Director of an exciting master¹s degree in Science and Technology Policy at Arizona State University (ASU).  The program is set up to be completed in 12 to 16 months as a full time student, or it may also be completed as a part-time student over a longer period of time.

As a benefit to students who are residents of Western States, we can now offer this degree to a limited number of students in Western states at in-state tuition rates through the tuition reciprocity agreement of the WICHE Western Regional Graduate Program (http://wiche.edu/wrgp).

Now in its forth year, this degree is offered through the Consortium for Science, Policy & Outcomes, ranked in 2011 as the #1 university-based science and technology think tank in the US. Students have the opportunity to work with 22 of the field¹s top faculty in a program with a 1-to-1 student-faculty ratio.

Graduates of the program are positioned to work in the private or public sector in many fields: energy, information technology, health and biomedicine, environment, space, research and development, science writing, science communication, and many more. Students in the program have done internships at the White House, some of the world¹s largest technology firms, state public utility commissions, healthcare administration, and more. All students spend two weeks in a special capstone workshop in Washington, DC, learning from and interacting with national leaders in science and technology policy.

CFR Conference Call: The 2012 Elections and Foreign Policy, 10/10/12

On behalf of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Professor Seth Weinberger invites you to participate in the next session of the Fall 2012 CFR Academic Conference Call series on Wednesday, October 10, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the Misner Room of Collins Library. James M. Lindsay, CFR's senior vice president, director of studies, and Maurice R. Greenberg chair, will discuss how foreign policy is playing in the U.S. presidential election.        

Prior to returning to CFR in 2009, Dr. Lindsay was the inaugural director of the University of Texas at Austin's Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law, where he held the Tom Slick chair for international affairs at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. From 2003 to 2006, he was vice president, director of studies, and Maurice R. Greenberg chair at CFR. Dr. Lindsay previously served as deputy director and senior fellow in the foreign policy studies program at the Brookings Institution. From 1987 until 1999, he was a professor of political science at the University of Iowa. From 1996 to 1997, Dr. Lindsay was director for global issues and multilateral affairs on the staff of the National Security Council.

Inspired by The New York Times best-selling book by the same name, this documentary follows authors Kristof and Wu Dunn and a number of celebrity activists as they travel through 10 countries struggling with issues of sex trafficking and forced prostitution, gender-based violence, and high rates of maternal mortality.  Like the book, this film advocates that the best way to tackle global poverty and address these poverty-related problems is to empower women.  

This event is co-sponsored by the P&G department, VAVA, and Amnesty International.
