- Seth Weinberger Presents -
FROM PROUD BOYS TO PLATO: DOMESTIC EXTREMISTS, NOBLE LIES, AND THE FUTURE OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

Since September 11, 2001, more Americans have been killed domestically by white, right-wing extremists than by Islamist militants. What inspires Americans to take up arms against their fellow Americans? And what can Plato’s Republic teach us about how to try to prevent the further radicalization of White America? Professor Weinberger will challenge us to imagine an aspirational future identity and consider the role of a liberal arts education in building a new nation

Will take place in the:

CALLING ALL UNDERGRADUATE AUTHORS INTERESTED IN PUBLISHING THEIR ACADEMIC WORK!

DEADLINE: MARCH 5, 2022

We are The Commons, a peer-reviewed undergraduate journal interested in spotlighting young scholarship in political science or politics-adjacent academic fields. We are excited to announce that we are accepting submissions for our upcoming issue! As an interdisciplinary journal, we publish academic work of any discipline that touches on political topics. Our aim as a journal is to amplify the voices of student scholars by providing a “second destination” for their research papers. We encourage undergraduate students to submit any argumentative research papers, analytical research papers, and empirical research papers. We are interested in papers that present rigorous arguments that add to, not simply summarize, an academic discourse. Strong submissions situate their findings within existing scholarship, as well as address the broader implications of their analysis on affected communities and the world at large.

Guidelines:

-        Submissions must be between 5-25 pages, including a bibliography and notes

-        Submissions must follow The Chicago Manual of Style (16th or later editions)

-        Submissions must include at least 7 sources in their bibliographies

-        Submissions must be in a docx., doc., or pages file format.

-        Submissions must be scrubbed of any identifying information, including name(s) of author(s) and institutions. Authors will provide appropriate contact information during the submission process

-        Authors must additionally submit a 150-300 word abstract of the submission and a 200-400 word cover letter.

-        Authors must be currently enrolled undergraduate students at a two or four-year institution

Submit by MARCH 5, 2022  through The Commons submission portal linked below:
