Dear Professors and Internship
Coordinators,
I am writing on behalf of the Paulette Jordan for U.S. Senate campaign to offer
opportunities to highly motivated students, especially those from the state of
Idaho and those taking a leave of absence, attending part-time, or those unable
to attend this year, who would like to enrich their education with practical
experience on a political campaign.
I am interested in getting students, especially those with academic interests,
professional aspirations, or personal passions in politics, activism, community
organizing, campaigning, and leadership involved with our campaign for their
educational benefit. Students from your political science, social sciences, human
rights, law, pre-law, humanities, and fine and performing arts departments are
encouraged to apply. Please circulate these opportunities accordingly.
Our current offerings for students come in the form of internships on the
campaign. I am happy to process internship forms the college or university may
provide for academic credit. Throughout the course of the campaign, health
precautions regarding COVID-19 will be strictly practiced and all opportunities
for students are available remotely.
Competitive candidates will demonstrate a positive approach to meeting goals,
the ability to work in fast paced circumstances, professionalism, keen social
skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills. Clear conditions of
the internship positions will be discussed with interested students at the time
of their interview. These benefits to the student’s education and
responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with remote voter
outreach, virtual events, and volunteer management
- Running social media accounts and expanding online presence
- Assisting the field, communications, finance, and campaign management teams
- Conducting research on legislative and political issues
- Receiving educational training and gaining experience in campaign operations
- Time commitment is flexible based on the students’ circumstance and course load.
- The term of the positions would be from the present until election day, Nov. 3rd.
- While this opportunity is classified as an unpaid educational internship, the campaign may approve academic credit requests and/or provide expense reimbursement stipends or need-based stipends to off-set costs of involvement. The campaign recommends colleges offer additional funding to those participating in unpaid educational internships, especially for those who demonstrate increased need or qualify for need-based aid to improve equitable access to internship opportunities across the board.
By engaging with the work of
running a campaign, students will gain valuable practical experience with
politics, organizing, and democratic processes.
I strongly encourage students who identify as members of communities that have
been historically marginalized to apply, as a key principle of democratic
process is ensuring equitable access to and experience in positions of change
making, policymaking, power, organizing, and leadership.

in particular areas of campaigning or politics. The deadline is rolling,
although positions are limited, so applicants are encouraged to apply promptly.
